Santa Barbara County firefighters stopped the forward progress of a 2-3 acre brush fire in Gaviota on Thursday afternoon.

At 3:55 p.m., crews responded with a full vegetation response to Baron Canyon, just east of Tajiguas Canyon. Upon arrival, they found 2-3 acres burning in heavy brush in the steep canyon, said Captain Dave Zaniboni.

There were six fire engines on scene, one hand crew, one helicopter making water drops, and one air tanker that was able to make one drop before flying to Paso Robles.

The forward spread of the fire was halted and crews are continuing to work to gain full containment, said Zaniboni.

There were no structures threatened and no evacuations, the cause is unknown.

Does anyone else see smoke coming from the Gaviota areas?
