A semi-truck caught on fire that spread to nearby brush on Highway 101 northbound near the Nojoqui Grade Summit on Monday.

Santa Barbara County fire crews responded at 11:44 a.m. to a report of a vehicle fire one mile north of the summit, just south of Buellton. When they arrived they found an 18-wheel semi-truck with the cab fully involved in flames, spreading to the trailer and roadway, said Captain Dave Zaniboni.

A full vegetation response was requested but crews on scene were able to keep the fire to 1/2 acre in light brush and grass. The forward progress has been stopped while crews remain on scene to mop up the fire, said Zaniboni.

The trailer and cab of the semi-truck are a complete loss, although the trailer did not have contents inside except a few pallets.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but California Highway Patrol is on the scene with a fire investigator.

CHP has one lane open through the accident site, with traffic slow in the area.
