Santa Maria Man Arrested for Mail Theft

In the early morning hours of June 19, 2020, around 2 a.m., deputies responded to the area of Aiden Way and Via Steffron for a report of a male subject stealing mail. Upon arrival, deputies contacted the suspect, 44-year old David Seviere of Santa Maria, near the neighborhood’s community mailboxes. An investigation led to the discovery of stolen mail from several nearby neighborhood residents in Sevier’s vehicle, a blue in color lifted GMC Jimmy. Additionally, keys modified to open mailboxes were located inside Seviere’s vehicle, as well as a stun gun. Seviere is a felon and prohibited from possessing a stun gun.

Seviere was arrested for mail theft (felony), possession of burglary tools (misdemeanor) and for being a felon in possession of a stun gun (misdemeanor).  He was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail and released without bail in accordance with Emergency Rule 4.

It was reported a female subject was with Seviere prior to the deputies’ arrival; however, she was not located. Her involvement in the theft of the mail is suspected. This investigation is ongoing and deputies are seeking any video footage of the male or female suspect from doorbell cameras or home surveillance systems in the area where the theft occurred.
