On February 6, 2020, a Santa Barbara resident reported their Subaru Outback was stolen from the 300 block of W. Padre Street in the City.

The keys to the vehicle were inadvertently left inside the vehicle. The Subaru was equipped with a STARLINK tracking system, which revealed the vehicle’s location in the 100 block of S. Turnpike Road in Goleta.

Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area and located the occupied vehicle. A traffic stop was attempted, but the vehicle fled.

After a brief pursuit, the vehicle was ultimately abandoned on La Buena Tierra in Goleta and the four occupants fled on foot. Deputies searched the area and apprehended two juvenile suspects. The remaining two suspects fled the area and were not located.

In a joint effort with the Santa Barbara Police Department and the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, the remaining two suspects were identified as Carlos Manuel Rivera-Buenrostro, age 18, and Carlos Gabriel Barajas, age 18.

Barajas was located and arrested by the Santa Barbara Police Department on February 20th. Rivera-Buenrostro was located and arrested on February 28th by the SBPD Special Enforcement Team.

Both suspects were arrested for charges related to the stolen vehicle and pursuit.
