Efforts to call a Santa Barbara neighborhood the Lagoon district have caught on with a web page and visitor information links, but some of the business owners say they would rather the streets either remain unnamed or have a new discussion about the branding.
Some say the lagoon image is not right. While that is going on, new restaurants, tech start ups, and creative tenants have joined some historic neighbors creating a strong, positive energy for the zone just to the east of downtown.
Suggestions for new names have a variety of ranges including SoCo (South of Cota).

Boycott any business supporting this hostile takeover. Go back to LA. Or SF where ever they came from.
DC/Swamp, SB/Lagoon. Considering that the Planning Department for the City backs right up to the Lagoon I would say the name fits. Now, who is going to clean up our Lagoon!?? DC may have Alligators that need to go. But what about our our Swamp monsters in SB?

La Cienaga or La Marisma would be more appropriate.
The name Lagoon is forward thinking and predictive. Global warming and ocean rise will turn the area into a veritable lagoon.
What a stupid name. Well they’ve kicked all the transvestite prostitute hookers off the street years ago. Always a sign of gentrification. What are we gonna call the Milpas district?

Or let’s go super dumb like lagoon and call it the traders district.
Indeed. Reminds me of the Blue Line project and how developer Jerry Beaver fought tooth and nail to sink the public project to save his property values.
