Remembering Alice and Jim Mitchell

Alice and Jim Mitchell with their dog Gigi passed away in the Montecito Mudslide on January 9th. Alice was 78 years old and Jim was 89 years old when they were swept away by the deadly storm.

Jim went to USC and Whittier College and worked in labor relations at Disneyland and later Sambos. He was a Trojan fan and loved animals. Alice went to Whittier College and was a school teacher for 30 years. She played the violin as a young girl and loved to collect beautiful pieces of art and also loved animals.

Alice and Jim moved to Montecito after retiring in 1995. Their Hot Springs Road home was named “Casa de Contenta,” the house of contentment. The night before the storm, the couple chose to stay home and celebrate Jim’s 89th birthday with a quiet dinner.

They were married for over 50 years and have two children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking people to donate in memory of Alice and Jim and Gigi to the Santa Barbara County Animal Services.

Services will be privately held on Friday, March 23, 2018.
