If you live in Marine Terrace be sure to check your mail today! Just got a notification from SCE that power in our area of the Mesa will be down all day on July 24. Only four days notice where we would typically get a couple of weeks. Lots of homes with lots of frozen foods during mid-summer and mid-pandemic.

More time should be given many of us cannot afford to toss out food that goes bad and if it gets hot some of us cannot handle the heat. I don't live on the Mesa but feel for those who do.

4 days of notice seems more than adequate. No reason to be a victim. Food will stay fine in an unopened freezer for the duration of the shut down.

Freezer yes, refrigerator no. According the to FDA, a freezer will stay at temp for up to 48 hrs for a full freezer, and 24 hrs for half-full. A refrigerator will only stay at temp for 4 hours! Of course those numbers are assuming you do not open the door even one time. They recommend pre-freezing refrigerated foods if you can, and freeze cups of water to put in the refrigerator to help it stay cooler longer.

Mesa gets cooling from the daily marine layer than moved in most evenings. While the rest of the city can swelter from time to time, one can often see the thick fog banked by the Mesa elevation where things are cool, dripping and gray.

We're on Eastside, off de la Guerra, and got a notice that the electricity will be out 9:30 to 4 on Monday; don't know how widespread that planned outage will be. I freeze water in milk gallon containers and put one in the refrig, one in the freezer and no opening allowed.

Dont be another person addicted to outrage. What do you need more than four days for? Your food will be fine... food doesnt spoil imediately. We just went through this a few months ago over by Hendry's. Power off 8-4 to replace power poles for a couple days. Its a minor inconvience. Maybe you could find gratitude that SCE is keeping up your neighborhood and doing repairs.
