Pepe's Reopened Today!

By Bob S.
I spoke to the owner of Pepe’s in Goleta yesterday. She said that after 2 years of being closed, they are supposed to reopen today.

Dec 01, 2022 06:19 AMAte lunch and dinner there and even though it is day one and they were full, margaritas were delicious and the food was excellent. Service was great...so happy Pepe's is open. This is a true gem of Santa Barbara and I wish the family owners well. I'll be back very soon!

Dec 03, 2022 12:12 PMSo you spent a week's grocery money on two meals? How was it? I want a review of the food! I miss restaurants like this, I loved them in my childhood and past years, but can't bear to pay the price, and I can afford it.
Who else remembers the Mexican restaurant in Ontare Plaza next to Tee Off?
(I say it was Pepe Delgado's but I'll get reamed if I'm wrong, and it was many decades ago!)
I'll shout out Mayo's taqueria for these current days. And Chicken Ranch.

Dec 01, 2022 08:09 AMI had no idea that Pepe's was closed for two years. Last time I was there was sometime back in the 80's or 90's. I am way long overdue to go there. Especially for the Margaritas.

Dec 01, 2022 12:16 PMi remember when Pepe's was a small shack famous for its hot burritos and paper plates,
plastic forks and a mini food market. it probably sat a half dozen people inside. and the
meat cooked for hours in hot peppers. i used to take the relatives and friends there as
it was so unique and great.
i think it catered to working folks who got the burrito lunch to go.
but when i returned to SB 5 years later, it was now a real restaurant. it had moved on to
a busier better place for people with sensitive stomachs?
but the hot burrito had been removed from the menu. it was too hot for some to eat.
it not even a secret option to order. so customers have to add a hot commercial sauce.
but it not the same. the old burrito brought tears of joy to one's eyes.
just like the hot horseradish beef dip sandwiches from a frisco bar did on Van Ness Blvd.
i wish Pepe's cooked up an old style hot batch for the holidays? and weekends.
or farmed it out to a taco truck.

Dec 01, 2022 08:24 PMi think the original smaller place was named "Pepe Delgados"?
is it still owned by the same family?
"Pepe's" is snappier and simpler name for a business.
Signage cost less too. Printing too. And ads.
Easy to remember.
