Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch in Los Olivos has sold for $22 million to billionaire businessman Ron Burkle.

The 2,700-acre property that includes a 12,500 square-foot residence and a 3,700 square-foot pool house was listed for $100 million in 2016 and then fell to $67 million in 2017.

Burkle was an associate of the late musician and is a co-founder of the investment firm Yucaipa Companies, reports the Wall Street Journal.

"Burkle’s spokesman said the billionaire had been eyeing Zaca Lake — which adjoins the property — for a new Soho House, a members-only club with locations in Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Toronto. Burkle ultimately decided the location was too remote and expensive for a club," reports the Associated Press.

Jackson passed away in 2009.

Without regard to Burkle's ethics, we have to understand that we live in a world where BIG money is out of control. Imagine you life as a serf in medieval Europe. What the lords did was often evil and corrupt and more often misguided but they ruled with impunity. Money is doing that to our society. We have to reassert our right, as The People, to control the world we have to live in.

I just read Ron Burkle’s Wikipedia page. As billionaires go, he seems to be a pretty decent guy. A big supporter of the arts, supporter of several philanthropies regarding child hunger, rape, and workers rights. Has donated millions to democratic candidates and spent lots of money helping to overturn California’s ban on gay marriage. He also had some brief affiliation with Jeffrey Epstein and left because he felt he was “creepy”.

All I read in that list is tax write off, tax writeoff, reputation laundering, guilt alleviation, bribing politicians. Thinking Epstein is creepy doesn’t make you a saint, everyone should think that if they know a fraction of what he did.

According to the NY Times article about the sale, "A spokesman for Mr. Burkle, who previously served as a financial adviser for Mr. Jackson, said that he viewed the investment as a land banking opportunity. " I'm not sure what a land banking opportunity is, but I suspect it will be a request in a few years to rezone the property for Oak View Estates subdivision, where the first action after the plot plan survey will be to cut down the Oaks and destroy the Views while chopping up the Estates.

Ron Burkle got several million dollars in PPP loans for his SoHo House Clubs, claiming they were small businesses. They should have a government program to send billionaire welfare queens like Burkle to patrol Afghanistan on foot. That is a government program I could get behind.
