Feb 02, 2023 09:04 AMThank you all for your good wishes! I feel stiff as a board today! One person who I rode in the ambulance down to Cottage hospital suggested it was Brakes on the truck that were the issue. The volume of smoke suggest it was not. However the smoke coming from below the truck, and the sides also tells me that it was not exhaust. My guess is that it was a leak of something like diesel, or oil onto something hot on the truck, but I am not an expert.
The problem with traffic cams used at lights is that they are used to determine positions of cars to run the lights. However, because of that their resolution is WILDLY lower than what is needed to determine type of car, or license, which is why a dashcam from someone would be great. The light cams can only determine that something is there or not.
Thanks again for the good thoughts.

Feb 02, 2023 02:28 AMI was one of the victims of this accident. I want to thank all of the Fire Dept, Ambulance, police, and hospital staff that showed up for their consideration and kindness.
The cause of the accident was an 18 wheeler heading toward Santa Barbara, that bellowed smoke so thick that cars (me included) could not see the road, so they stopped at differing speeds in smoke so thick that you could not see the road in front of you. Cottage hospital says I have slight lung damage and asked if I was a smoker (I am not). The 18 wheeler drove off! If you have dash cam video going up over the pass for the next half hour, the CHP, and I personally would like to see it.
I do not believe that the trucker left intentionally knowing he/she caused an accident, but we all need to find out in order to be safer.

Feb 02, 2023 08:07 AMGood to hear you are going to be ok and I hope the other people that were injured will be ok also. 18 wheelers should not be on the 154 unless they have business along the way. I know that trucks carrying toxic materials are banned from the 154 but the ban should be extended to all commercial trucks - it’s just not an appropriate route for them, especially with the number of speeders, dui’s and tourists in the mix.

Feb 02, 2023 06:50 AMGlad to hear you are okay. You can subpoena the city of sb as there are cameras at the 154 and the 101 intersection (I believe). Hasn’t anyone noticed they have put up cameras almost everywhere?
