Motorcyclist Dies in Highway 101 Collision

Update by the California Highway Patrol

On August 31, 2022, at approximately 9:59 a.m., a fatal crash occurred on US 101 Northbound, Just south of Salinas Street. Party #1 was driving a 2022 Yamaha motorcycle, traveling in and out of all traffic lanes, at a high rate of speed.  A crash occurred when the motorcycle collided into the left rear of a blue 2022 Honda CRV located in the #3 lane.  After the initial impact, Party #1 was ejected from the motorcycle and landed within the roadway.

The California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and American Medical Response responded to the crash scene. The driver of the Yamaha motorcycle succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical professionals on scene.  The crash is still under investigation by the Santa Barbara Area of the California Highway Patrol. The use of alcohol and/or drugs by the driver is under investigation. US 101 northbound south of Salinas Street #1 lane was closed for approximately two hours.

A motorcyclist died in a traffic collision on Highway 101 Wednesday morning. 

The collision took place around 10:00 a.m. in northbound lanes near the Salinas Street exit, according to the California Highway Patrol. 

The Santa Barbara County Coroner has been called to the scene. 

The number one lane is closed with lanes two and three open but moving slowly.

No further information is available at this time.
