More Stolen Montecito Mail Found in Painted Cave

By an edhat reader

Dear Montecito,

You have suffered so much over the last few months, so it is with a heavy heart I deliver this news.  With the lifting of the evacuation orders, and the roads opening, business is quickly coming back to
life.

We, in Painted Cave woke up to 18 of our mailboxes, wide open and empty, which prompted us to do a search of Painted Cave Rd.  We pulled up almost 30 lbs of mail, and once again, 95% of it was from the Montecito area – Toro Canyon, E. Valley Rd., Jesusita Lane, etc.  It was a combination of both delivered and outgoing mail.

We have shared our information, contact numbers and names, ‘case’ numbers with the Inspector General of the Post Office, with some of your neighbors.  They should help spread the word.

We thought this would just be a ‘Holiday’ thing, but apparently it is becoming a year-round thing.  Once again, please know, checks, unopened credit card and bank statement were throw into the bushes. IRS letters, both going to and coming from were left intact.

If you had outgoing mail, and were sending checks and think you might be in the affected area – cancel your checks and resend them.  I don’t know how long it will take the Post Office to reunite your check with your envelope… and you.  If you were expecting checks, inquire with those who sent them.  The same goes for bills and statements.  God forbid you were expecting a new credit or debit card.

You can contact the Post Master General  here to file a complaint – https://www.uspis.gov/report/

There is also a number at the bottom, should you choose to call and speak to an actual human being.

Please know, we are working on our end to catch these people, but it seems that we are on our own to do so.

Deputy Hampton, from the SB Sheriff’s department was whom I was directed to.  He told me that anyone who is ‘missing mail’ should contact him through the Sheriff’s non-emergency number – 681-4100.

Sincerely,
Your Painted Cave mail search and rescue team
