Goleta’s mainstay Chinese restaurant, Ming Dynasty, is set to close on Sunday after 32 years.
A sign placed on the front door states owners Jenny and John Ho will be retiring and closing their doors on September 1.
The 290 Storke Road establishment has been next to KMart since their doors opened in 1987. Countless college students have flooded through the doors for their buffet specials over the years while just as many Goleta families held special occasions over Mongolian BBQ.
In 1980, John and his wife, Jenny, immigrated to America with nothing but $200 and a suitcase of clothes. He worked at his uncle’s restaurant before partnering to open China Castle two years later. In 1987, the couple started their own restaurant dynasty in the Goodland. The served authentic cuisine from the Hunan and Szechuan provinces of China and filled numerous bellies with their “secret menu.”
There’s still time to enjoy their buffet before the doors close for good on Sunday.
