Mental Health Awareness Week is October 6-12

Mental Health Awareness Week is October 6-12, 2019. During this week, advocates across the nation come together to raise their voices in support of mental health and to speak out against stigma.  The Department of Behavioral Wellness encourages every individual in our community to help make a difference and help raise awareness of mental illness next week.

Here are some ideas of what the community can do:

  • Post a lime green ribbon on your social media profile picture
  • Wear a lime green ribbon every day during the week and share what it means to you when others ask.  Encourage your coworkers, friends and family to do the same.
  • Go all out with decorating your work station with lime green!
  • Tie lime green ribbons to all the trees near in your neighborhood, or ask neighbors or local businesses to display lime green ribbons on their front doors!

Let’s make sure our community knows how important mental health awareness is, how important mental illness is to talk about (let’s wipe out stigma) and how easy it is to get help when struggling with mental illness.

  1. SB County Behavior Wellness sells, markets its NON-medical talking – listening head employees but is not in the mental illness business. Wear lime green so others will ask. Then inform others how much tax money is wasted and to advocate for doctors, nurses and facilities. Serve the medically mentally ill who require physician diagnosis and medical treatment to assist heavily burdened families, and/or to get these humans off the streets into licensed long term medical care facilities. Too sad: County Spins Mental Illness.

  2. I am truly sorry to hear of the suffering you and your child have endured for so long. Have you spoken with a clinician who specializes in eating disorders? Even if your child does not have an eating disorder, an eating disorder specialist would surely know how to treat body dysmorphia. A quick Google search could give you a list of providers in the area.

  3. Halo Mr. Edhat
I believe this article needs to be reposted again everyday. It is a week long event and just by the number of comments you can see hardly a anyone over the weekend gave it any thought. Maybe if you post it again during the week people may catch on and respond or make comments everyone can benefit from. I know not one single Mental Health Patient or Provider aka Doctor even read Edhat over the beautiful weekend. Please post again or post information about where to find the help this week especially the services being offered and where to go to get this help! At least Post it in Lime Green! Any little thing could make the difference in so many Lime Green lives….promote the Glow of Lime Green during Halloween. Promote something that brings those who can help to reach out and HELP! Not while they are spending my money on the Golf Course, in their Lime Green golf attire though! Seriously???
