Kayaker Rescued Off Goleta Coast

A kayaker drifting off to sea was rescued near Coal Oil Point in Goleta on Saturday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County Fire crews responded to an ocean rescue around 3:53 p.m. for a report of a 21-year-old male USC student drifting approximately a half mile from the coast.

According to fire officials, a water rescue crew towed the student and the kayak safely to Sands Beach near UC Santa Barbara.

Officials state the student was not in distress and not suffering from hypothermia when rescued.
