Edhat StaffThe Sheriff’s Office is releasing the identity of the pedestrian that was fatally injured by a train in Goleta yesterday, July 20, 2017. The decedent is 51-year-old Edmund Alexander Backus of Goleta. Backus was riding his bicycle just after noon on the train tracks near the Goleta Amtrak Station and was wearing headphones when he was struck from behind by a northbound Amtrak passenger train. The Coroner’s Bureau has determined this death to be the result of an accident. Next of kin has been notified.
