One of the best years in recent history in my opinion! Really great job by all the artists. I also liked that they moved the children’s area out of the main area. Bravo everyone!

It’s sad that it all gets destroyed and NOT kept.
I think I recall the reason but, what if they were preserved on something that would keep these projects as fundraiser auctions?
As a fundraising idea I would bid.
It’s not sad to me, it’s how the festival is designed. Material objects are fleeting, live in the moment.
they exist as photos, but I don’t know if Il Mandodari folks keep an archive.
What does last longer than the chalk art is the bruises and muscle aches from doing the chalk art.

What I want to know is how did Stargazer Ron edit out all the people, cars, booths etc. for that amazing overall photo of the chalk art?
Otherwise, the chalk art that made me take a second look was the one slugged “Friends” of a cat holding a mouse by the tail with his paw.
Fabulous! Thanks for sharing, Ron. Don’t know how you managed to get such “un-warped” views of some of them–maybe you were suspended on a scaffold right over the top?! Finally getting a shot today to see these beauties up close and personal. Fingers crossed that the drizzle this morning hasn’t smeared them too much. I know, I know. They’re meant to be temporary, fleeting, ephemeral, but … sure wish the festival was in September each year when the weather is reliably warm and dry. As it is currently aligned with the Memorial Day holiday, wouldn’t Labor Day be an even better long 3-day weekend? Food for thought.
