The homicide victim has been identified as 19 year old Edward Jonathan Ramirez, a resident of the City of Santa Maria.

At about 0042 Hrs. Officers were sent to the report of shots fired in the 2000 Block of Lazo Way. Upon arrival they found a nineteen year old male who had been shot while near the roadway. Efforts to resuscitate the gun shot victim were not successful.
The victim was a resident of Santa Maria and notification of next of kin is pending at this time.
The homicide investigation is well underway and no further information is available for public release at this time. Anyone that believes they may have information related to this crime is encouraged to contact the Watch Commanders Office at (805) 928-3781 ext. 2297.
When a village, state or culture has a virulent history of violence and tolerating it their families, those who fear it and can, go somewhere else. Tragically, if they carry the “virus”, they bring it with them like Europeans fleeing the Black Plague in the 14th century. To stop it, family practices and values have to change. Children must be educated and trained from the earliest ages to think and act responsibly with respect for themselves and consideration for others. Once it’s rampant, numbers overwhelm those who would do better.
