Hitching Post Hunt: Update 12.14.21

By Betsy J. Green

I’m still skulking around the streets of Santa Barbara hunting down the remaining hitching posts here, so I thought I’d give you an update on my progress since I started at the end of October.

So far, I’ve searched for 159 hitching posts that were listed in the 1975 count. Of these, I’ve found 125 that are still here. Sadly, 34 are gone. However, I have found 12 that were not on the 1975 list. Some may have been overlooked in the last count, or may have been moved. I have about 20 more from the 1975 list to hunt down.

And (dramatic pause here), about 70 people told me about the locations of hitching posts they know about, so when I am done with the 1975 list (probably the end of December), I will begin hunting down the list of 70.

The hunt continues. I’ll keep you posted (pun intended)!
