Highway 154 Closed, Except to Residents

Source: Caltrans

Highway 154 remains closed at State Route 192 in Santa Barbara due to damage from the Cave Fire except for residents with identification who will be permitted by the CHP to travel beyond San Antonio Creek Road.

Highway 154 from the Hwy. 246 Roundabout is closed except for residents with identification and CHP verification who will be allowed to the Cold Spring Tavern, Camino Cielo and individuals holding reservations at Lake Cachuma.

Motorists should be advised there is no thru traffic from the Santa Ynez area to Santa Barbara. Caltrans recommends the public and drivers of large trucks use US Highway 101 as an alternate route.

Caltrans is assessing damage to guardrail and drainage facilities on Hwy. 154 between San Antonio Creek Road and Painted Cave Road caused by the Cave Fire.  It will not re-open in these areas until roadway safety features are repaired. Caltrans has contracted with Granite Construction of Santa Barbara for this $1.3 million emergency project.  There is no estimate when the entire highway will re-open.

Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down when driving through highway work zones and watch out for emergency responders.
