Hwy 101:  Santa Barbara to Mussel Shoals
SBCAG and Caltrans have completed widening eight of the 16 miles of the Highway 101: Santa Barbara to Mussel Shoals project to add carpool lanes and address a narrow portion of Highway 101 that currently has two lanes in each direction. The project is phased as depicted on the Project Location Map [above]. Phases 1 and 2 are complete. Phase 3 is in construction, and Phase 4 is planned to begin in 2019.

Please visit the updated www.SBROADS.com to see maps and information on the projects that make up the Highway 101: Santa Barbara to Mussel Shoals area.  This includes:

  • Project summaries, photos, and statistics for Phases 1 – 4
  • New maps for Phase 4 segments
  • Updated information on the Lane & Train Solution as identified in 101 in Motion

Phase 2 Receives Excellence in Transportation Award
Caltrans recently awarded an Excellence in Transportation Award, in the Intermodal Transportation System category, to the Hwy 101: Carpinteria to Mussel Shoals Project(Phase 2) and its Class I bike path between Mussel Shoals and Rincon. The award recognizes the strong collaboration between SBCAG and Caltrans Districts 5 & 7 to deliver this outstanding project. The project’s recognition in the Intermodal Transportation System category is especially good news because future SB1 state grant funds have significant funding for multi-modal corridor improvements.
