The City of Goleta’s Design Review Board will review a large-scale Battery Energy Storage Project at its upcoming virtual meeting on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. The public will have an opportunity to be heard and offer comments on the design-related issues. You can watch the meeting live on Goleta TV Channel 19 or live on our website at https://tinyurl.com/GoletaMeetings.  If you are unable to watch the meeting live, a recording will be available on our website.

Suzanne Elledge Planning and Permitting Services (SEPPS), representing Goleta Energy Storage LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alta Gas Power Holdings Inc., submitted a request to construct a 60 mega-watt battery energy storage facility and accessory substation with associated parking and site improvements at 6864 and 6868 Cortona Drive in the City of Goleta. The applicant also proposes to subdivide the existing lot into two parcels. The plan calls for constructing 22 parking spaces on the newly created lot. Twenty-one (21) of the new spaces would be for the existing building located at 6868 Cortona Drive and one (1) space would be for the proposed energy storage facility to be located at 6864 Cortona Drive. With the addition of 21 new parking spaces, 6868 Cortona Drive would have a total of 122 spaces (21 new and 101 existing).

For more information about this project, please contact the project planner, Kathy Allen, at (805) 961-7545, or via email at kallen@cityofgoleta.org. You may request a staff report for this project before the public hearing date. The meeting agenda, staff report and project plans will be available approximately 72 hours before the hearing on the City’s website at www.cityofgoleta.org. Comments on this project may be emailed to the project planner by 5:00 p.m. the day before the hearing date.

In light of the City’s need to conduct the meeting virtually during the COVD-19 pandemic, written comments may also be submitted using the instructions above, via email to Deborah Lopez, City Clerk, at cityclerkgroup@cityofgoleta.org, or by electronic means during the June 9th hearing provided they are received prior to the conclusion of the public comment portion of the Public Hearing. Instructions on how to submit written comments during the hearing will be available on the City’s website at  https://tinyurl.com/GoletaMeetings.

The project is at the conceptual review phase and is also in the process of an environmental review.  The Design Review Board’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission will conduct a hearing to review the project upon completion of the environmental document.
