Fatal Collision on Highway 101

On October 13, 2017 at approximately 1 a.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred on US-101 southbound, north of Garden Street.  The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara City Fire Department, and American Medical Response Ambulance Company responded to the collision scene.

A solo female driver, 28-years-old, from Atascadero, was traveling southbound in a black 2013 Subaru in an undermined lane.  A collision occurred when the vehicle veered to the right, left the roadway, and collided with a tree.  The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency response personnel.  The driver’s name is not releasable pending next of kin notification.  Please contact Kelly Hoover (PIO) at the Santa Barbara County Sheriff Department for the name of the deceased.

US-101 southbound, at the aforementioned location has three traffic lanes.  Traffic was light, and no traffic lanes were blocked during the collision investigation.  It is unknown at this time if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision. This collision is currently under investigation.
