The Santa Barbara County Fire Department has issued an evacuation warning for the Vieja Drive and Calle las Brisas Ave area.

A brush fire was reported near Calle Las Brisas and Mockingbird Lane area just before 11:00 a.m. This is in the More Mesa area of the Goleta Valley.

Firefighters and a helicopter responded to the area to attack a growing fire in mild to medium brush.

As of 12:30 p.m., the fire is estimated to be between 5 and 7 acres. Ground and aircrews are making good progress and the fire activity has diminished significantly, according to Captain Daniel Bertucelli.

There are three different spot fires that are being pushed through the grass by a moderate onshore wind towards heavier vegetation and eucalyptus groves that are backed up against some homes.

The evacuation warnings are still in place and should be lifted soon as firefighters gain more control of fire.

This article will update with more information as soon as it becomes available.

  1. Any time you smell acreage burning in Santa Barbara, if there’s any sort of wind (or not), get your go bag(s) ready. Plenty of people thought Sycamore Cyn Fire, Painted Cave Fire, Tea Fire, Jesusita Fire, Gap Fire (you get the picture) weren’t “that big of a threat” . . . at first.
