A driver sustained moderate injuries after his tractor-trailer plunged 150 feet over the side of the roadway on Highway 166 early Thursday morning.
Santa Barbara County Fire Department, CHP, a CALstar helicopter, and an ambulance responded 6 miles east of Tepusquet on Highway 166 at 6:13 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a double tractor-trailer hauling gravel had gone off the roadway but did not flip over, said Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni.
The single occupant of the trailer, a male in his mid 50’s, was transported to Marian Medical Hospital via ground ambulance with moderate injuries. The CALstar helicopter was not used.
CHP is investigating the cause of the accident and Highway 166 is open in both directions.
