Dons Baseball Raises Thousands for Pediatric Cancer

By the Santa Barbara Unified School District

Santa Barbara Dons Baseball raised over $4,200 for two pediatric cancer non-profits while inspiring other teams from across the state to do similar fundraisers.

The money raised will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation’s Vs. Cancer program to defeat childhood brain cancer along with the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.

Fans packed the stands for the fundraiser held during the SBHS baseball game on Friday, April 14.

Vs. Cancer was started by a pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate athlete. The organization empowers any sports team, athlete, and community to help kids with cancer.

Fundraising proceeds help fund local hospital programs for children battling brain tumors and other cancers, financial assistance and critical resources for patient families nationwide, and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors – the deadliest form of pediatric cancer.

“It was so touching to see all the support at the game. The community came together and rallied around this wonderful cause. It was special. There was a lot of love at the game!” said Santa Barbara Dons Head Baseball Coach Steve Schuck.

Coach Schuck said the team plans to fundraise for the Vs. Cancer fundraiser next Spring, and hopes to find another charity this Fall.
