City Council Approves Chick-fil-A Traffic Circulation Agreement and Site Improvements

On Tuesday, the City Council approved a proposed traffic circulation agreement that provides enforceable traffic control measures and site improvements for the Chick-fil-A restaurant at 3707 State Street. The City Council also voted to rescind its previous direction to staff to prepare a declaration of nuisance ordinance resulting from extensive queuing at the drive-through lanes at Chick-fil-A.

In recent years, the queuing from Chick-fil-A’s drive-through onto State Street created serious traffic congestion, as well as hazardous conditions for pedestrians, cyclists and those with disabilities. At the meeting on Tuesday, staff and Chick-fil-A presented reports demonstrating that temporary measures implemented by the restaurant have significantly improved those conditions.

City Councilman Eric Friedman said that things were moving in the right direction with issues around public safety, environmental review, and Architectural Board of Review concerns all having been addressed.

“I appreciate the collaboration we have and that it’s getting us to a better place to address the long-standing issues,” Friedman said.

The meeting was continued from the March 1, 2022 public hearing when the Council directed the city attorney to prepare a declaration of nuisance ordinance while also directing staff to work with Chick-fil-A to evaluate approaches to abating the nuisance.

  1. Didn’t know fighting hunger and helping homeless was a hate group?
That’s why we created the Chick-fil-A Shared Table™ program, an initiative to help restaurant Operators fight hunger in their local communities. Today, more than 1,200 Chick-fil-A restaurants across 47 states donate surplus food to local soup kitchens, shelters and nonprofits through Chick-fil-A Shared Table, and that number continues to grow each year. To date, we have donated more than 10 million meals to serve those in need.

  2. Sacjon, I suppose one positive impact on the LGBQT is access to food many people from all walks of life enjoy.
Unlike the fuel in your car that was made with middle eastern oil. You know, where they execute gay people!!!

  3. Sacjon – They do usually have nice young people working there. I understand the owner has stopped donating to these groups currently- although the company would not commit to not donating to them in the future. The pickles on the sandwhiches are a nice touch. I like the wraps the most 🙂 But let’s discuss what Santa Barbara really needs – WHERE ARE YOU DEL TACO – WE’VE BEEN BEGGING FOR YOU TO COME HERE FOR YEARS.

  4. Sail380 – I don’t see where Del Taco or Jack in the Box donate to hate groups. But again, you do you. Give it up man it’s Friday go mow your lawn or something or maybe report a neighbor for an illegal garage conversion.

  5. So you wont go to Chick-Fil-A but you probably shop at a couple of our local markets owned by a South Korean company?
Wear puffy jackets made from Middle eastern oil?
    Use computers with Chinese components?
We all know how those countries are on human rights and terrorism!!
I guess Chick-Fil-A is the most convenient wagon to jump on and wave a flag.
    .

  6. SAIL – I never said I won’t go there. I’m just not here defending their support of those who attack marginalized groups. Is Alberston’s owned by your mysterious “South Korean company?” Who is that anyway? I don’t wear puffy jackets. As for Chinese computers, that’s the same silly/old/illogical argument that you can’t drive a car if you are against drilling for oil in pristine ecosystems. Do they even make a computer that uses all European parts? I won’t support American made given our horrible record of allowing child shooting.

  7. I don’t eat at Chik-Fil-A, I am not defending guns and I do not belong to the NRA. Our horrible record of gun violence can be traced to the increased use and over prescription of psychotic drugs. When that problem is recognized as a problem things will start being better. As for now we just wait for the next overly medicated kid with a sealed juvenile record to short circuit. Then blame the gun.

  8. GT & Sac- Seriously? That’s just gross. I haven’t had Chick, but I have had Del Taco. I assume both are nasty, I know Del Taco is! With all of the amazing local small business Mexican food around, you want Del Taco? I want to be surprised, but… Yeah, figures.

  9. “Our horrible record of gun violence can be traced to the increased use and over prescription of psychotic drugs.”
    LOL.
“When that problem is recognized as a problem things will start being better. ”
Yeah, when everyone else becomes so stupid that they buy into this BS you invented then everything will be just peachy.
Remember, folks, the primary characteristic of right wingers is dishonesty.
