A fire in a Goleta residential community’s carport damaged vehicles early Friday morning.
At 4:09 a.m., Santa Barbara County Firefighters responded to the 300 block of Morton Bay Lane for a reported structure fire and discovered heavy smoke in the area.
Crews discovered about 12 vehicles burning in a carport with the flames causing exterior damage to a nearby residence and woodworking building, said County Fire Captain Daniel Bertucelli.
An aggressive attack was made with additional engines on the scene but crews were able to save the structures.
Residents of the residential complex were previously evacuated leaving about forty people displaced and assisted by the local Red Cross.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
