Broken Fire Hydrant in Montecito

Thousands of gallons of water gushed from a fire hydrant Thursday night in Montecito after it was sheared off in an accident.

The water was shooting about 15 feet into the air when the Montecito Fire Department arrived on the scene on Sycamore Canyon Road at Ashley Road about 11:20 pm.

Neighbors believe the hydrant was hit by a sports car that left immediately.

Around 11:30 pm Thursday, a broken fire hydrant started to spill thousands of gallons of water onto Ashley Road near Highway 192. We didn’t witness the accident, but we can only assume was a hit a run by a vehicle. Just another thing to stress about in Montecito.
