Body Found in Wheeler Canyon

It’s now being reported the victim is a 70-year-old woman from Santa Paula. She crashed her vehicle while attempting to evacuate from the Thomas Fire and was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The death has not yet officially been reported as fire-related, although some sources are reporting it as such.

The body of a woman was found in the Wheeler Canyon area near Ojai.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office reports the body was found near the site of a car accident and the cause of death is unclear. 

Authorities are unclear if this is a fire-related death. It’s being investigated by California Highway Patrol and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.
