Authorities have released the identity of the surfer that was found in the water off Mesa Lane on December 28, 2023.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office states the decedent’s name is Guy Brian Wright, 68 of Santa Barbara.
Emergency responders received a call around 12:15 p.m. after Good Samaritans retrieved the body.
A surfboard was discovered floating in the water off Mesa Lane prompting nearby surfers and a fishing boat to search for its owner.
Wright’s body was found and transferred to the fishing boat who delivered it to emergency responders in the Santa Barbara Harbor.
The Santa Barbara County Sheriff-Coroner has yet to release the cause of death.
RIP Guy. I didn’t know you but I hope you died doing what you love.
