Suspect Arrested for Assault With a Deadly Weapon After Standoff

Deputies have safely arrested a suspect for an assault with a deadly weapon after an hours-long standoff. At approximately 7:13 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of Encina Meadows for a stabbing that had just occurred. When deputies arrived, they found an adult male victim near a bus stop with severe lacerations. The victim was transported to an area hospital for care with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies quickly located the suspect inside a residence at Encina Royale and identified her as 31-year-old Kebrina Alvarez. Deputies learned that the suspect and the victim are known to each other, and this was not a random attack. While deputies attempted to have the suspect exit the residence, additional resources responded to the scene including the Special Enforcement Team, Crisis Negotiation Team, and K9 Units. Deputies authored a warrant for the suspect and entered the residence at approximately 10:45 a.m., where the suspect was taken into custody without further incident. The suspect was transported to an area hospital for medical clearance and will be booked at the jail for assault with a deadly weapon later today.

Active Shooter in Goleta?

By an edhat reader

Any other reports about a swat team out by Fairview and Encina looking for an active shooter this morning? I can’t leave work, but I heard swat is out in the plaza nearby Fairview.

  1. Given the following: ” Kebrina is a unique baby name in United States during its short run, it been to the top 3000 names. In 1993, it ranked 2487th when 50 girls were named Kebrina.”
    I’m guessing you (A-1693420767)are right
There were 30 girls named Kebrina in the USA during the year 1992 when Ms. Alvarez was born

  2. Let’s hope that the injured person is okay and that the stabber gets some help. There once was a time when you could go to “sleepy” Goleta and feel completely safe. I am in Goleta several times a week, sometimes a couple times in the same day. Goleta has made a lot of strides in the last few years toward equity for all classes of citizens, but it seems to be allowing/enabling a certain element to “run the show.” There’s one gentleman who sets up his home completely across the sidewalk in Old Town and apparently that’s okay these days. I really hope that the CoG does not let things slip so far off the rails that there is no recovering as is happening in the City of SB. One big test will be to see how the new housing development at the former Super 8 does. I hope it goes well, but if we look at what has happened in Santa Barbara where the less fortunate are accommodated, well…..not good (just drove on lower Milpas…yikes!). Although not a citizen of Goleta, I wish them the best with all of their recent growth, which also fosters “big city” problems.

  3. Coast, You are absolutely correct! In one photo you can see 21 LEOs. And there are the two armored personnel carriers, the 6 or 7 officers in full combat gear, a K-9 unit, fire department units, Sheriff’s command truck and a crisis negotiator team. What an over-response for one woman with a knife! And what a waste of tax payer $ when most of these could have been performing other needed law enforcement activities. Unbelievable!

    • Yeah, it’s almost as if all these militarized weapons, tools and tactics are unnecessary in a small town with small crime such as this…… Almost like we should divert some of the funds away from all these things to spend on I don’t know… mental health crisis response teams or something?
LOL (literally, I did laugh out loud) it’s honestly absolutely hilarious reading people like COAST complaining about the use of tax payer funds for overkill like this and then also hearing him/her scream about the liberals wanting cops to not use tax payer funds for overkill like this……

  4. It really does not matter where this occurred, whether it be Goleta, Capinteria, Santa Maria, or Lompoc. What does matter is that we have adequate LE in place when these things occur. I had a family member who once worked at Atascadero State Hospital, and he said that many of the inmates there did not have lengthy “rap” sheets whatsoever. He said that the event that led to them being there were quite often a one-off event….or as it was explained to me, the person “lost it” for 10/15/30 seconds and did the most horrific things. I hope that the State of California adopts the proposed (maybe it has already passed?) legislation that allows the state to care for those who cannot/will not/unable to take care of themselves rather than rotting/dying on the streets/bushes/gutters.
