Arrests and Commissary Banishment at Northern County Jail

The Sheriff’s Office has made arrests and kicked out commissary workers at the Northern County Jail.

Several people were arrested for trying to bring illegal substances into the jail and several contracted commissary workers were recently banned, according to a report from KSBY.

KSBY interviewed a recent inmate who stated he witnessed fentanyl sales and use within the newly built $120 million facility.

The jail opened in January of this year and has since seen five inmate overdoses that were publicly reported, one resulting in death.

The Sheriff’s Office announced a naloxone training to inmates this past Monday to help recognize signs of an overdose as well as how and when to correctly administer naloxone.

“The goal of this training is to increase awareness of the dangers of opioids and opioid overdose, increase lifesaving overdose intervention and decrease overdose deaths, both in our custody facilities as well as in our communities,” the Sheriff’s press release stated.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office contracts with the Keefe Group for commissary services and will reportedly continue with the contract.

According to KSBY, the Sheriff’s Office would not respond to additional questions about who was arrested, what their connection was to the jail, and if workers from the Keefe Group were involved.

  1. Me thinks it’s an inside job. Billy Brown never wastes an opportunity to toot his own horn so if these arrests would somehow make him look like the best darn sheriff this side of the Mississippi, he’d have a press release sent out to every media outlet with tons of photos. Since the word is mum and they’re silent, I’d assume it’s someone Billy hired that’s responsible.
