An Afternoon to be a Kid

At the United Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Barbara County, it is a top priority that kids are allowed to be kids. Through a program called “Corporate Playdates”, adults can have an opportunity to be a kid again. On Friday, February 9, UBGC welcomed Leadership Santa Barbara to come challenge the kids in a game of dodge-ball, go head-to-head in Rock Band, and share what their dream job was as a kid.

“After working for the United Boys & Girls Clubs for 3 years, I learned to value and live by the mission. In my new role at Cox Communications, I still strive to share this impact with as many community members as possible. Corporate Play Dates provide a unique opportunity to experience the Clubs through the eyes of a child; and as an adult, this is priceless,” shared the previous UBGC VP of Development, Carla Leal.

Members get paired up with one adult for several activities. It’s a chance for UBGC members to show their mentor for the day what being a part of the Club is all about. “This is such a great way for companies to have a team-building experience while making a difference in our members’ lives. I just love watching adults become children again all through the art of play,” expressed UBGC CEO, Michael Baker.

If your company is interested in learning more about corporate playdates and would like Michael Baker to come talk to you and your staff please email mbaker@unitedbg.org. It’s great to be a kid again, but even better when you get to impact a child’s life by spending an afternoon with them.
