There will be a big economic boost to the Santa Barbara Airport district and the city budget in the coming years.
Nine buildings including a car dealership are going into city owned land on Hollister Avenue. Civic and economic officials used golden hammers to drive in some nails on the project Thursday.

A Persian soup vendor owned the Soup Kitchen International in New York City, and was scripted in the Jerry Seinfeld Show. Customers lined up for soup it was so delicious.
I’m not sure why anyone in Goleta thinks this is good news. City of Santa Barbara gets all the tax revenue (it’s their land) and Goleta gets all the traffic impacts.
Why is Bennet smiling? Or even in attendance? Doesn’t he know that Goleta is getting screwed by this project?
I’ll be part of the traffic going to good restaurants (thanks, Jeannine’s), and in a safe environment in Goleta. Any possible tax issues are above my pay grade.
Jane Restaurant in Goleta is great. But, they don’t open until 11:30, only brunch on weekend. Wishing they would open for breakfast. Del Pueblo (on Hollister at Magnolia Shopping Center) offers a breakfast. This place is like a museum, art everywhere! Colorful and fun experience, and the restaurant is easy-going, calm, and quiet.
I’m not political so I don’t know who Bennett is. I just enjoy life, and I have lots of money to spend…so, off to Goleta I go for a good meal at Jane. Exciting!

So many downvotes from SB residents. They don’t want the secret to get out regarding their theft of Goleta tax revenue.
Goleta should have started sprucing itself up decades ago when Camino Real went in, starting with Old Town. That downtown stretch f Hollister is an embarrassment.
The name of the restaurant in Goleta should be “No Soup for You!”, and this should be the soup menu: Curry Chicken with celery and carrots, Navy Bean w/ham, Meatball w/vegetables, Pork with tomato/green and yellow chiles in green sauce, 7 veggies vegetable, Beef/veggie (like beef stew). Maybe include an easy drive-through pick-up for seniors who don’t want to get out of the car, but want a good meal. Also, give a senior citizen discount. OK? Someone smart could make this happen.
Target opens at 8am, and next year when it opens in Goleta, I will shop there early. Then, I’ll go to a nearby good restaurant for breakfast. Jeannine’s is a good start. I’d also love Lila Patisserie to be in Goleta, because it is a gluten-free restaurant, and best omelette’s in Santa Barbara.
Old Town Coffee opened up a few weeks back, and they have dy-no-mite coffee, fantastic food items, and a large array of baked treats (my favorite is the chocolate croissant!). OTC is on Hollister, just a door or two down from Velo Pro Bicycle shop. Also, if you’ve never had a breakfast burrito from Chapala Market in Old Town Goleta….run, don’t walk to get one of their two-fisted monster “reetoes.”
SO MUCH TRAFFIC and so many people in Goleta now, I used to go there, now I avoid it like the plague.
People if Goleta, you are so short sighted. Just the thought of a soup or breakfast restaurant makes you ignore the lost taxes and increased traffic related to this project? No wonder Bennet is smiling: his constituents are morons.
Goleta is great! Lots of international companies there, and the professionals who come along with them. UCSB nearby. Shopping choices. Easy FREE parking. Friendly people. Emerging good restaurants. Old Town is ‘ok’, but some planters with flowers and decorative trees would really spruce up the street and make it more friendly.
Anyone who needs a breakfast place in Goleta and doesn’t go to Cajun Kitchen might well be a communist…
