Accidental Shooting in Santa Maria

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

On 9/22/17 at approximately 2137 hours, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Donovan and Western in response to guns shots heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers were unable to locate a victim or witnesses.

Shortly after responding to Donovan and Western, SMPD dispatch received a call from Marian Medical Center who reported that they had just checked in a gunshot victim. Officers responded and contacted the victim, a 27-year-old Hispanic male adult who claimed he was shot near the intersection of Donovan and Western.

Based on the inconsistent statement by the victim, lack of suspects, lack of witnesses, and the location of the gunshot wound itself, it is believed that victim sustained an accidental self-inflicted none threatening gunshot wound to his torso.

This case is still under investigation, anyone with further information is urged to contact the Santa Maria Police Department at 805-928-3781.
