During a safety operation on June 7, 2022, the Goleta Police Department Traffic Unit issued 26 traffic citations for a variety of violations made by drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians and one person was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. In addition, four subjects were issued warnings and one vehicle was towed.

The citations were for various vehicle code violations where bicyclists or pedestrians made unsafe choices and the drivers were issued citations for infractions that were unsafe to bicycles or pedestrians. The operation took place within the City of Goleta limits during a four-hour operation period. A total of 31 persons were contacted.

“Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility, especially when we are sharing roadways.” Sergeant Noel Rivas of the Goleta Police Department said. “Our main goal is that everyone gets home to their friends and families.”

Police services for the City of Goleta are provided by the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office. Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  1. Many bicyclists don’t respect anything and anyone : they’re “cool” so they allocate themselves all the rights.
Just go to the Tuesday Farmer’s market on State Street : blocks are clearly marked PEDESTRIANS only , no bicycle, no roller, no skate etc. yet you can count a good dozen bicyclist a minute who brazen drive through, sometimes at 20 + MPH on their electric bikes and who just laugh at you when you remind them of the “no bike”.
And of course, I have NEVER seen one single cop in the area to put an end to those abuses.
    Thank you SBPD !!!

  2. The right wing all purpose straw and bogeyman makes up 20% of CA coastal voters, but 100% of the scofflaws says the genius in residence. Its a very special bigoted brand of genius.
Marcel. You do realize that statement is bigoted? Look up bigot and say hello

  3. No one rides 20+ mph through the State St. Farmer’s Market … it isn’t physically possible. Nor, of course, are there a dozen cyclists/minute anywhere except yesterday when the AIDS/LifeCycle folks came through town (and they were very respectful of the law and everyone around them).
For actual examples of people who don’t respect anything or anyone, especially truth, check out the right wing.

  4. MarcelK : Go there and you’ll see.
And how many COPS have you EVER seen putting an end to that abuse.
It’s not because you’re obviously a cyclist that you can deny reality and the general lack of respect that cyclists have for others !

  5. Edney, you keep forgetting bigotry is okay, supported, and even encouraged against people who don’t agree with them so long as you add a ‘conservative’ or ‘right-wing’ to the end, regardless of whether the person is actually any of those things. It’s a free pass to be an a-hole and dismiss any point of view you don’t like. Brought to you by the supposed party of inclusivity and compassion.
