WAY BACK WHEN: THE DAY IT RAINED FISH

At the foot of Ortega Hill in March 1918, Mr. F.W. Myers stepped outside to look at a rainstorm and was pelted with a live fish — “between 10 and 11 inches in length.” Holy carp! That’s a big fish. The paper reported that Mrs. Myers was home at the time, but did not mention any signs of marital discord, so she was not suspected of being a fish flinger. “The opinion … is that the fish was … a flying fish which … had been caught up in the high winds.”
