Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Mesa, Arizona woman and a Carpinteria man on weapons violations during two separate traffic stops.
On Sunday, August 8, 2021 at approximately 7:37 a.m., deputies contacted 23-year old Brooke Harman who was a passenger during a traffic stop for a cell phone violation on Palm Avenue at Eight Street. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded .380 caliber handgun was located between the passenger seat and center console. Additionally, a 9mm AR-pistol with two loaded extended magazines were also located in the vehicle. Further investigation found that Harman had illegally purchased one of the pistols in Arizona.
Harman was arrested and booked at the Main Jail for carrying a concealed firearm (felony), carrying a loaded weapon in a vehicle (misdemeanor) and unlawful transfer of a firearm (misdemeanor). She was booked and cite released with zero bail pursuant to the local court extension of Emergency Rule 4.
Later in the same day at approximately 2:41 p.m., deputies contacted 37-year old Juan Wolfe during a traffic stop in the 4600-block of Carpinteria Avenue. A probation search of the vehicle was conducted and Wolfe was found to be in possession of a loaded polymer Glock replica handgun (ghost gun) loaded with 9mm ammunition. The handgun appeared to be fully functional but was not serialized or registered in accordance with California state gun laws. They also located suspected stolen mail from Ventura, Santa Barbara and Alameda counties.
Wolfe was arrested and booked at the Main Jail for carrying a concealed firearm (felony), felon in possession of a firearm (felony), carry loaded weapon in a vehicle (misdemeanor), prohibited person in possession of ammunition (felony), unlawful transfer of a firearm (misdemeanor) and receiving stolen property (felony). Due to the seriousness of the charges, deputies requested and received an enhanced bail which was set at $150,000.00. Additional charges of possession of an assault weapon and possession of a semi-automatic pistol capable of accepting a flash suppressor were submitted to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
