Traffic Incidents: February 18-19, 2024

Edhat readers and scanner reporters share traffic incidents throughout the South Coast during the recent storm on February 18-19, 2024:

February 19, 2024

10:15 a.m. – Road Closure Gobernador Canyon Rd from HWY 192 to HWY 150

9:51 a.m. – Highway 101 South at SR-150, large pot hole in the road

9:42 a.m. – SR-154 at San Antonio Creek Road, vehicle stuck in the mud on the right hand side.

9:30 a.m. – Reports that 2 transformers have blown: 1) Bath St. & W. Ortega St. 2) 333 N Calle Cesar Chavez.

8:52 a.m. – At SR-192 and Coyote Road, power lines fell on top of a moving vehicle.

8:49 a.m. – Olive Mill and Hot Springs Roads flooded

8:45 a.m. – SR-192/Foothill Road flooded between Cravens and Santa Monica [Update: This has reopened]

8:34 a.m. – Refugio Road Flooded

8:17 a.m. – Harris Grade Road closed from Rucker to SR-135

6:28 a.m. – SR-246 closed at Sweeney Road

State Route 144 is closed from north Salinas Street to the Junction with State Route 192 in Santa Barbara County due to flooding and slide activity. There is no estimate for re-opening.

Road Closures in Goleta

  • Maria Ignacio Bike Path
  • San Rossano Drive at Padova Drive
  • Cathedral Oaks Road between Winchester Canyon and Calle Real remains closed
  • Ellwood Mesa Open Space area and parking lot are closed

  • 9:44 PM: Fire Response near 5989 Mathews St and Fairview Ave,. in Goleta. Person reporting sounds of alarms for quite some time, “…maybe an hour…”. …”Now, can see visible smoke…” “Going Code 2.” ‘No Sirens.’
    • 9:59 PM, SB County Fire, “..please check situation from Technology Drive, Goleta. ‘angle.’
    • 10:01 SBC, Southenly scene staged.
    • 10:04 Scene cleared. Apparently code 4 or 10-98 as per SB County FD.
  • 9:33 PM: Vehicle Collision, Highway 101 South Bound Between Casitas Pass and Bailard Ave in Carp. No other details via scanner.
  • Around 8:49 PM Sunday night, reports of a rollover accident parallel to the 10100 block of Calle Real in Goleta. Occupants still inside the vehicle lying on its roof. No other details via the scanner available.
  • 8:12 PM CHP responding to vehicles being struck on Hwy. 154 during rainy night. Vehicles are pulled over awaiting CHP. Unknown how many vehicles, or extent of damage.
  • 7:56 PM. Roll-Over Vehicle, Comes To Rest of Train Tracks Near 101 and Tajiguas. Traffic Collision South of El Refugio, vehicle came to rest on train tracks. CHP advised Union Pacific to halt train traffic in the area. Driver self extricated, Male in His Forties wearing a grey hat.
