A tanker truck rolled over on Highway 154 near San Antonio Creek Road Wednesday afternoon causing major traffic delays.
The traffic incident took place around 1:46 p.m. Santa Barbara County Firefighters found a large sanitation container truck, which was empty, had flipped on its side just south of San Antonio Creek Road. It appeared the vehicle was traveling eastbound towards Santa Barbara when the driver lost control on the curve and flipped over.
The 66-year-old male driver was initially stuck inside a vehicle when a passerby used a hammer to break the windshield and safely extricate the driver. He sustained minor injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
The truck is completely blocking the westbound lanes of Highway 154 and it will take at least one hour for the roadway to be cleared. Traffic is backed up in the area.
California Highway Patrol is investigating this incident.
Gee, shocking. Like driving any tanker or freight truck on 154 is a good idea.
I have been through all those places on a Greyhound bus it’s kinda like the same thing.

The same company Stewart”s, aka County Sanatation, and maybe the same truck/driver came down my small shared driveway. He had the wrong address so he had to turn around and in the process tore up my driveway. He should have see that the driveway was too small for such a large truck. Not best or the brightest. Don’t think I am going to use this company.
I say no trucks allowed on that road unless Necessary for work only, they slow up the traffic to much. And yes tear up the roads.
GPS in the hands of every driver has mangled hwy 154 and many other local routes. There is no reason any truck longer than 18ft should be on that road unless they’re delivering locally. The traffic on the 154 has become an absolute mess in the last few years. Loads of accidents and road rage occur daily due to GPS in the hands of tourists and truckers who take the pass to save +/- 10 miles. The real problem however, is that there is nothing we can do about it…
