On Sunday, December 8, 2019, at about 1749 hours, officers from the Santa Maria Police Department were contacted by a concerned citizen regarding a possible threat directed toward school-aged children. The reporting party shared with officers a social media post where a male juvenile held an item in a similar fashion to a rifle while urging people not to attend school the following day. The subject did not reference any specific school.

During the course of the investigation, this department received a phone call from a concerned parent, who advised their child was responsible for the post. Officers contacted the 13 year old juvenile and confirmed he was in fact the one pictured in the social media post.

After speaking to the juvenile and his parents, officers confirmed the item held in the picture was not an actual firearm and the juvenile did not have any intent to harm anyone and/or carry out any acts of violence. It was also determined the juvenile did not have access to firearms.

School administrators have been made aware of this incident.

Flicka, if you have access to more info than appears in this article then please share. Reading the article several times, there is no specific threat mentioned, not even a hint of an actual weapon involved (and explicitly no access to firearms), no history of misbehavior, and no suggestion of any intimidation or bullying of a specific victim or group of victims. And the strongest evidence listed in the article is the legal equivalent of anonymous gossip. And you want criminal sanctions?? Wow.

I agree, 856, that the kid shouldn't get off with a "you shouldn't have done this" slap on the wrist. He mad a frightening threat, not cute or funny.

School administrators need to come down hard on this kid to send a message to the rest of the students in all of Santa Maria.

I have no sympathy for bullies even when caught & they hide behind their parents or the "Under 18" shield that the CA media set many years ago, which is completely outdated in this age of rampant social media by intimidating others while hiding like a coward behind a glowing screen.

Agreed. They must send a message that this will not be tolerated. He should be suspended, not just as punishment, but for safety reasons as well. So what if he doesn't have access to firearms? He can still bring other weapons to school to carry out harm. These threats must be treated harshly. If this was my kids school and this kid was allowed to come in, I'd keep my kid home for the day. You can NEVER be too safe these days.
