Santa Maria Home Damaged in Fire

By edhat staff

Santa Barbara County firefighters contained a small fire in a single family residence home in Santa Maria on Tuesday morning.

At 7:36 a.m., fire crews responded to 885 Dahlia Court after neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the structure. Crews found a fire burning in the back bedroom and were able to contain the blaze to the room and its contents without spreading further to the home, said Captain Dave Zaniboni.

The owner, who was home in bed, was woken up by neighbors after seeing smoke. They were able to get the owner, two dogs, and two cats out of the house without injuries. The home did sustain minor smoke damage.

The cause is under investigation.
