Red Flag Warning Through Wednesday Morning

Update by SBC Office of Emergency Management

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for the majority of Santa Barbara County starting late Monday night (January 18) through Wednesday morning.  Wind speeds of 20-35 mph with 35-50 mph gusts are expected for the central coast and Santa Ynez Valley. For the mountains, 30-50 mph winds with damaging gusts of 60-70 mph are likely, especially Tuesday afternoon and night.

Damaging winds could blow down large objects such as trees and outdoor furniture. Unplanned power outages are possible. Take caution when outdoors and when driving.  Avoid hazardous activities that may cause sparks or start a wildfire.  For more information, visit https://www.weather.gov/lox/.

Public Safety Power Shutoff Events and Emergency Generators

Your electrical utility company may need to turn off power during extreme weather or wildfire conditions. Utility companies are referring to this as public safety power shutoffs (PSPS). If you plan on using an emergency generator to power your home or business during a PSPS event, see these postcards for tips for staying safe and compliant with State rules and requirements administered by Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District (APCD).

  1. Good for you Alex, what is everyone who can’t afford a house, solar system with battery backup, and electric car supposed to do? I think there are more pressing matters affecting citizens of California than pushing to be the leader going all electric. Why can’t we push to be the leader in public education first? How about push to be the leader in how we care for those experiencing homelessness and/or drug addiction? Why can’t we push to be the leader in bringing families above the poverty line?

  2. VOR–couple things.
    1. I figured you for a right wing, conservative, personal responsibility, property rights type of person. So you’re trying to shame me for how I spend my money? Leave the class warfare at home, it’s tired.
    2. As a society we have the resources to do everything that you mention. We can do all of it, if, collectively, we decide to do so. But we won’t, because this country is about accusations, ulating and protesting personal and corporate wealth despite the creation of a desperate and uneducated underclass and the destruction of the environment.
So, yeah, let’s do it all. Stop electing corporate puppets. Also, maybe you VOR have the power to do just a little bit to help. How are you helping your community? Or are you?

  3. Have you run the numbers on how much this type of system costs, how much it costs on a monthly basis to borrow the money to do it, and how much it can save you in electrical bills over time?
If you factor all of those things in plus the tax credit, it can be a wash after a number of years (depending on the capacity of the system).
I’m going to make a CRAAAAAZY assumption, VOR, that you have not actually done the research on the cost/savings question.
