Updated statement by Santa Barbara Police Department
11:00 p.m., March 29, 2021

On March 29, 2021 at about 1720 hours the City of Santa Barbara Combined Communications Center received several 911 calls reporting possible gunshots heard on Eucalyptus Hill Road near Salinas Street. Additional 911 calls came in simultaneously reporting a vehicle collision into a tree causing the vehicle to catch on fire. Multiple police and fire resources were sent to the area.

Upon arrival Officers found an adult male victim who sustained significant injury inside the vehicle that had collided into a tree. The victim, an out of County resident, was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in critical condition. Officers were able to confirm that shots had been fired in the immediate area with potential suspect or suspects still remaining near the location.

The Santa Barbara Police Department SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Response Teams responded. With the assistance of the Santa Barbara Sheriff Department helicopter and K9 units, the SWAT team conducted a thorough search for public safety and have determined the area to be safe at this time. The previous shelter in place order was lifted for the area by 11:00 pm.

This is an on-going investigation and the circumstances suggest that it was not a random act of violence. The Santa Barbara Police Department Criminal Investigations team was called in to investigate this incident.

Yeah Roger was just driving on Salinas about 15-20 minutes ago there was smoke everywhere people running and the whole neighborhood was stopped staring at it. Looks like every single cop in Santa Barbara has been called in. This is a scene

It is a shooting victim I don't know his condition or anything about him except he was in a vehicle...Reverse 911 call should be going out soon for people to Shelter in Place.

Maybe the city will start taking the increasing crime in this area serious and stop chalking it up to it just being the "east side". I have been saying for months now there is open drug sales and gang activity without police. Lou dillon lane and eucalyptus hill as well as behind Munoz automotive is where the gangs members hang out. The drug sales are obvious so are the gang members. If SBPD would have some form of community out reach to assist maybe such a tragedy wouldn't be common in this area. Pray for the victim and their families. Hope some sort of change can come from this

Yeah
Terrorize the community with police... AFTER a shooting.
Shooting came first, otherwise police wouldn't be there.
In other words the terrorism was started by someone in the community, not the police.
Is your solution to have the police stand down and let the community vigilante their way through this? Or is is just to have the police be 100% reactive vs. 50% proactive
