Movies in the Park Series Returns to Isla Vista

By the IVRPD

Isla Vista Recreation & Park District (IVRPD) is excited to announce the return of Outdoor Movies in the Park, set to begin on Friday August 19th in Anisq’Oyo’ Park amphitheater in downtown Isla Vista. This new piece of IVRPD programming was launched in Summer 2021 to widely popular reviews, and IVPRD hopes to build upon that momentum this year by adding 9 new titles to the movie line up. Guests of all ages will be able to enjoy free, outdoor movies in the park every Friday night from August 19th until October 14th, except for Friday September 2nd in observation of Labor Day weekend.

“The Outdoor Movies in the Park series is a fantastic event for Isla Vista that helps strengthen the sense of community and joy,” said 2nd District Supervisor Gregg Hart. “Kudos to the Isla Vista Recreation & Park District and all the sponsors for creating such great outdoor entertainment.”

“Our District has been working on creating a continuum of seasonal, multigenerational events like the Movie Series that people within Isla Vista can enjoy for free,” said IVRPD General Manager Kimberly Kiefer. “The movies are such a fun opportunity for people around the community to come together for outdoor entertainment and we hope everyone can join us this year.”

“We have selected films that appeal to families and students,” said Anna Jensen and David Heras of Isla Vista Arts. “We hope you’ll come to beautiful Anisq’Oyo’ Park to gather, laugh, and celebrate!”

IVRPD is proudly partnering with its event sponsor Isla Vista Arts, a program of the UCSB Humanities Division focuses on providing performing arts and events at venues within Isla Vista. IVRPD is also thrilled to be partnering with Magic Lantern Films who will be providing access to the movie licenses. Last, IVRPD thanks UCSB Instructional Development for providing the inflatable movie screen and theatre audio system.

All films start at 8:30pm. Bring your beach blanket, popcorn, and friends. A limited quantity of snacks and refreshments will be provided while supplies last.
