Despite the government shutdown the EPA administrator from Santa Barbara County is still on the job.  Carpinteria resident Mike Stoker has been coordinating emergency help along with FEMA  for fire victims in California along with disaster relief in other areas of Region 9.

That covers 50-million people in California, Nevada, Arizona, Hawaii, Pacific Islands and 148 tribes.  He says this kind of emergency response is still authorized.  While the shutdown is on, Stoker says he is working on a rapid restarting process for his staff as soon as the shutdown is over.

The region's main office is in San Francisco.

Good time to re-organize entire government departments and workforces. Some will prove they are essential; some are well past their sell date. Unemployment is very low right now, so there will be no hardship for anyone who finds themselves looking for a new job.

Factotum: What elitist crap! The population is bell curve of competency. Some are at one end and some are at the other. Within the great middle range they all have a right to decent work, salary and respect. Your screed seems to be that "the government" is a refuge for incompetents who have managed to hid themselves in bureaucracy and should be thrown out. No evidence of this. The evidence of incompetent behavior (from society's view) is more often found at the top end of the curve where the managers and directors and executives of corporations steal and plunder. PG&E being the latest example. It is in fact a good time to get rid of that corporation and make it into a public utility (owned by the public).

Good for him, I guess? The man is well paid, I guarantee he isn't having financial issues due to this shutdown. Meanwhile, 380,000 are not able to work or be paid at all, and another 420,000 are working without pay. I don't think Stoker needs to be patted on the back like this, when so many are *actually* forced to make sacrifices.

Mike Stoker is a joke. A yellow vest does not make someone competent. Stoker's career as a shill for oil companies, especially Greka, was good preparation for the fox guarding the chicken coop. Stoker is not qualified for this job just as his boss is not qualified.
