A vehicle burglary occurred on San Roque Rd by the Jesusita Trailhead Sunday evening between 6 and 7 pm. No possessions or bags had been left in the car that would have been visible from the outside and could have enticed the burglar. The burglar smashed the rear window to get access to the trunk. Be careful when you park at the trailhead and don't leave anything of value in your car!

If you take a "fanny pack" for your driver's license and money and leave the rest home there will be nothing to steal.

Yes, I used to live up there on Jesusita Lane. The homeless live along the trail that links Stevens Park to Jesusita Trailhead near Cater Water Treatment Plant.

When I was parking there a few months ago, for a trail hike, a police officer told me there is a large homeless camp in the area and therefore, be very careful of what you leave in your car.

Time for a sting operation. Tons of break ins at trailheads which discourages hiking. Pathetic losers. I’m thinking sting operation on video in the news will make them think twice.

Abiut three years ago we had a laptop stolen at that location even though it was well hidden under the car seat. We also had a bunch of our camera gear ripped off about a year ago at Parma Park. Our camera gear was in a "decoy" Trader Joe's shopping bag, which turned out not to be a good decoy at all.

There's been a few car break ins around the east Anapamu area. 2 people I know how had bags stolen out of their cars. Nothing of value in the bags for both of them. One of them had values in the glove compartment but the guy didn't look. Must of have been some of the meth smoking vagrants who hang out around Alameda park.

The Paradise road trailhead parking lots still charge $10 but no longer have an attendant. The Ranger told me to just leave a window down and nothing in the vehicle, there was nothing he could do to provide any security.

"Advice." The word is advice. Not "advise." Somewhat common mistake. Two different words, two different meanings.

I have always thought the advise to leave nothing of value in you car was not very helpful. You are going hiking - so you should carry everything from your car on your back because they cannot protect our property. Prop 47 which made theft under $950 basically a wrist slap has enable thieves to take what they want. Maybe they could patrol, arrest, prosecute and punish offenders.
