Honoring Black History Month: Healing Justice to Host Black is Beautiful Gala & More

February marks the celebration of Black History Month, a time to recognize and honor the contributions, achievements, and resilience of African Americans throughout history. In Santa Barbara County, there are several events and activities taking place to commemorate this significant month.

To explore the rich tapestry of events happening in the community, the local organization’s  Healing Justice Santa Barbara, Juneteenth Santa Barbara, and Black Culture House are sharing their community events calendar offering a comprehensive guide to the festivities.

From thought-provoking discussions to artistic performances, there is something for everyone in the Santa Barbara County community to participate in. Here are some highlighted events happening this month:

Healing Justice Santa Barbara Hosts Black is Beautiful Gala & Fundraiser on February 23

The Black is Beautiful Gala and Fundraiser will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM PST at the Hilton Santa Barbara Beachfront Resort in The Grand Ballroom. The program will be hosted by local artist and performer, Vivian Storm, and will include musical performances by a special guest for VIP sponsors, Inner Light Gospel Choir, Santa Barbara Unified School District Honor Band, a special HBCU Majorette Tribute by P Money Experience, a special performance from the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. Mu Kappa Chapter, the Black Legacy Awards, a raffle giveaway, and HJSB will have the Black/African American Historical Timeline exhibition to onsite to view for VIP sponsors.

This event will help to raise funds to support Black-led organizations and initiatives to help re-imagine our collective investment in community care. Saint Paul AME Church, Juneteenth Santa Barbara, Sojourner Kincaid Rolle Youth Artivism Scholarship, and the Community Emergency Needs Fund will receive the funds raised from the Gala. Below you will find information about how the Community Emergency Needs fund has been sustained throughout the years with support from Healing Justice Santa Barbara.

Another Way to Support – Buy Dune Coffee with Proceeds Benefitting HJSB

DUNE Coffee Roasters has partnered with Healing Justice Santa Barbara to honor Black History Month.

The Healing Justice SB Blend is a signature blend developed to enjoy as an espresso or as a brewed coffee that includes 25% Colombia Cauca, 25% Ethiopia Aricha, and 50% Honduras Ojojona.

The beans are on sale thorough February with 40% of proceeds going back to HJSB.
