Hollister Class I Bike Path Update

Source: City of Goleta

Construction in the Hollister Class I Bike Path project area (Hollister Avenue from Pacific Oaks to Ellwood School) is moving along. In the next couple works concrete work will continue on the new medians. Once all the concrete is placed, the street will be paved in the areas where the old median was removed. Landscaping in parts of the medians will be added near the end of the project.

Stage 1 of the project will be finishing up in late June/early July and the traffic control will be adjusted for the Stage 2 closures. During this time the following will be closed in the eastbound direction (the southern side of Hollister Avenue): one traffic lane, existing sidewalk and bike lane on the south side of the road.

As part of the Stage 2 traffic control, a temporary concrete barrier will be placed adjacent to the open traffic lane. A multipurpose pedestrian and bicycle pathway will be provided behind the concrete barrier to separate the pathway from the traffic. Delineators and temporary plastic fencing will separate the pedestrians and bicycles from the construction work area.

During the Stage 2 traffic control, the bus stops along the south side of Hollister will be impacted during construction. The City is finalizing concepts with MTD to allow for at least two temporary bus stops within the construction project limits. More information will be made available as soon as the plan is finalized in the next week.
